About enamel

Emamel: history and production

Enamel already existed in the middle ages. At that time many products were made of enamel. For example heaters, pots, pans en mugs. Many years later also advertisemant boards, street signs and house number signs.
Trends come and dissapear but this seems not apply to enamel. Despite inventions of other materials, enamel is still a popular material. Enamel has so many advantages that it will probably exist forever.

Enamel: how it is made

Emamel is a handmade nature product. The basis of an enamel product is steel. A piece of steel is punchet or cut out of a big steel plate to get the right shape and size. The piece of steel that had been cut out then gets a special coating. Then it gets it´s first background colour and goes into an oven to be heated at 800°C. Next it has to be cooled off, and then it gets it´s inscription or picture. Then it goes into the oven again and has to be cooled off again. For every seperate colour the whole procedure will be repeated.

Enamel can be coloured by hand with templates. This is very labour-intensive but the result is a beautifull product because you can see and feel relief. The picture or text can also be made with a direct print or silk screen print. Text can also be made with a laser. Emaigro has been a pioneer by using a laser. The way of making an enamel product mostly depends on the quantity that is needed.

Why enamel?

Enamel can create a feeling of romantic nostalgia. On the other hand, for some people the word ´enamel´ is similar to ´old-fashioned´. But who knows more will confirm that it is a timeless material:

  • Because you can make everything on an enamel product (text, pictures, photo´s) it is also possible to make it look modern.
  • Enamel is 100% biodegradeble, most other materials are not. Enamel is extremely durable. It´s colours do not fade.
  • Thanks to the improved ways of production, the production process have become very environmental friendly.
  • Enamel is vandalism resistant. You can not bend it, and even plastering with permanent markers or graffity can be removed without damaging the enamel product.
  • Enemale has an unique charisma. There are no other materials that can meet the durabillity and charisma of enamel.
  • Already in the 15th century enamel was used frequently. Nowadays it still is. That means a lot!

Enamel stands for Tradition, Charisma, Durabillity and Quality.
